Book 2015 "Measuring emissions from livestock farming"

Book "Measuring emissions from livestock farming" (Hassouna & Eglin, 2015)

The result of cooperation of 38 authors, this book presents several methods to measure gaseous emissions from animal housing, fields and manure storage. It is based on practical descriptions, field studies and comparison tables of the measuring methods.

In France, animal farms contribute to around 70% of national emissions of ammonia (NH3) and methane (CH4). To date, emission measurements are far from considering the diversity of categories, thus limiting the number of references that could be used by farmers to improve their systems and practices. This book, resulting from a partnership between ADEME and the network "RMT Animal farms and Environment", aims at taking stock of the main methods used in France to quantify emissions of greenhouse gases, ammonia and nitrogen oxides from animal farms. The objective is to guide the user in choosing the method best adapted to his objectives and his means. The book can be used to become aware of most methods used in France in animal houses, manure storage, crops and pastures. The book is now available in English.
