Introduction

The technique of the closed dynamic floating chamber is often used in the observation and the comparison of the stored slurry emissions. It is employed when the emissions are weak (e.g.: nitrous oxide emitted by soils). The conditions in a closed chamber being different from the outside conditions it is strongly recommended to check the representativity of the measurements, e.g. by adding measurements of mass balance deficit of the stored liquid. The general principle is to isolate a portion from the surface of a pit with slurry and to measure the changes in concentration between the chamber and background air over a period.

  • Floating dynamic chamber
  • Silica gel
  • Pumps
  • Gas meter
  • Teflon or other inert material for withdraw the inlet/outlet air through the dynamic chamber
  • Sample line 2 constructed of Teflon or other inert material for transporting the inlet/outlet air to the mobile laboratory
  • Flasks for collection of condensate 3
  • Inert connectors
  • Flask
  • Acid solution (H2SO4, 0.5-2N)
  • Mobile laboratory with measuring equipment, computer and control devices when sampling lines are multiplexed. It should also be equipped with the sampling equipment for slurry sampling, conditioning, and transportation.
