BILAGREAU is a "xlsm" file which proposes agronomic and zootechnic indicators to improve the management of animal farms. This program addresses two levels of complexity: the diversity of animal farms, the diversity of forage systems associated to one category of animal farms. The program takes account of these diversities and provides to the farmer an additional knowledge of his farming system. This tool is mostly dedicated to dairy farms and suckler cow herds, including those with intensive pig or poultry houses.

The improvement of water quality in intensive livestock areas can be associated to the conservation of farm productivity. The accurate preparation of the plan for manure spreading contributes to risk control, to the optimisation of the use of organic and mineral fertilisers, and to the grass and crop choices toward a better feed autonomy. The BILAGREAU program calculates zootechnic, agronomic and environnemental indicators adapted to the complexity of the management of forage systems that include grass production. The productivity of crop or animal activities and the water pollution risk are shown by these indicators. This knowledge can help to improve the efficiency of the farming system, particularly the forage autonomy of the herd. The user can use it to compare the effect of different practices or structural modifications of the farm.

The BILAGREAU program (in french) is based on eight modules:

  • forage system, manure production, inputs of organic NPK on crops, grasslands and spreading areas;
  • NPK production per animal category, stocking rate and critical levels;
  • total organic inputs on grazed areas including excreted effluents;
  • preparation of the plan for spreading, including imported or exported manure;
  • spreading plan for grassland with/without legumes;
  • spreading plan for forage and crops for selling;
  • forage budget and feeding autonomy;
  • summary of results and evaluation benchmarks.

This free software has been designed for farmers, their advisors, the teachers in agricultural schools, or the catchment authorities.
